The Georgia Museum of Agriculture and Historic Village sits on spacious grounds with more than 30 restored structures that represent 19th-century rural farm life. The buildings come from different locations throughout the area and are furnished with period items to recreate scenes of how farming communities looked and functioned.
The museum was established in 1976 to preserve the heritage of farming and rural communities in the region. The buildings were relocated from throughout the Wiregrass area of Southern Georgia to create an authentic picture of earlier agricultural and country life.
The site showcases how rural communities functioned through working demonstrations of crafts, cooking, and farm tasks in period buildings. These hands-on activities reveal the daily rhythms and practical knowledge that shaped agricultural life in this region.
The grounds cover a large area, so wear comfortable shoes and allow plenty of time for exploring. Visitors should come prepared for weather changes and understand that some structures have limited access depending on the day.
