Callanwolde Fine Arts Center, Arts center in Druid Hills, Atlanta, United States.
Callanwolde Fine Arts Center is an arts center and community space set in a Tudor Revival mansion in the Druid Hills neighborhood of Atlanta. The building holds galleries, studios, and classrooms spread across several wings, with landscaped grounds surrounding the property.
The estate was built in 1917 for Charles Howard Candler, son of Coca-Cola founder Asa Candler, and served as the family's private home for decades. After changing hands several times, it was converted into a public arts center in the 1970s.
The name Callanwolde comes from the Irish ancestral estate of the Candler family, who built the property. Today, artists work in studios inside the mansion, and visitors can watch them while walking through the galleries and hallways.
The center sits in a residential neighborhood and is easiest to reach by car, with parking available on the grounds. It is worth checking the program ahead of your visit, since exhibitions and classes change throughout the year.
Every winter, interior designers transform the mansion's main rooms into a temporary display of holiday decorations, turning the historic interiors into a kind of living showcase. This event is one of the few occasions when the original rooms can be seen fully furnished and decorated.
