Barrington Hall

Barrington Hall is a two-story antebellum mansion with classical white wooden facades and multiple supporting columns across its front. The building was carefully designed to command views from its hilltop location in the town.

The house was founded in 1842 by a successful mill operator who shaped the region's industrial growth. During the American Civil War, it served as a hospital facility before eventually passing to public ownership.

The surrounding gardens show how wealthy families used and maintained their outdoor spaces. Visitors can see today how daily life moved between the house and these grounds.

Visitors should wear comfortable shoes, as the grounds are hilly and there are stairs throughout the house. Guided tours are the best way to understand the full story and interior details.

The location at the town's highest point was deliberately chosen so the owner could oversee his textile mills below. This made the house a symbol of economic control over the area.
