Bulloch Hall

Bulloch Hall is a white wooden mansion with large columns, symmetrical windows, and detailed carved moldings that exemplify the Greek Revival style from the 1830s. The structure shows the clean lines and classical proportions typical of this architectural period.

Owner James Stephens Bulloch built the house in 1839, and it later became the childhood home of Martha Bulloch, mother of President Theodore Roosevelt. This connection to a prominent American family gave the property historical importance.

The dining room displays period furniture and objects that show how wealthy Southern families lived and entertained in this era. You can see everyday items that reflect the domestic routines of that time.

You can tour the house with a guide from Tuesday through Sunday, and group rates are available for larger parties. Check the opening hours ahead of time and plan your visit to make the most of your time there.

Records show that around 31 enslaved people lived and worked on the property in 1850, maintaining the household and the surrounding lands. This difficult reality is an essential part of the story that must be told at this place.
