Old Harbor Light, Lighthouse in Emmet Park, Savannah, US.
The Old Harbor Light is a cast iron structure painted dark green that rises roughly 7.5 meters from East Bay Street with a beacon mounted on top. Its form resembles an oversized street lamp rather than a conventional tower.
Built in 1858 by the United States Lighthouse Board, this light guided ships through Savannah Harbor while helping them steer clear of submerged British vessels from the Revolutionary War. The structure later underwent major restoration work that was completed in 2001.
The light stands within Savannah's Historic District and shows how shipping shaped the city's development and character. Walking past it today, you can see how maritime activity influenced the neighborhood's layout and importance.
The light is located next to East Bay Street in Emmet Park and is easy to reach on foot. Visit during daylight hours to get a clear view of the green structure and the harbor beyond.
The structure looks more like an oversized street lamp than a traditional tower, making it an unusual example of 19th-century maritime architecture. This distinctive shape means it is easily overlooked unless you know what to look for.
