UFO Welcome Center, UFO tourist attraction in Bowman, South Carolina, US
The UFO Welcome Center was a tourist attraction in Bowman, South Carolina, featuring a 46-foot-wide flying saucer structure made of wood, fiberglass, and plastic mounted on four motorized columns. The interior included basic amenities such as a bed, satellite television, and air conditioning, with a second smaller saucer added on top in 2003.
A local resident built this unconventional tourist destination in 1994 and added a second structure in 2003. The building was destroyed by fire in May 2024.
The center gained widespread attention when a major television network featured the attraction, bringing it into the spotlight of popular culture and making it known to audiences across the country.
The location was situated in a remote area of Bowman, requiring visitors to arrive by car. The attraction is no longer accessible following the fire in 2024.
The founder considered himself an extraterrestrial ambassador and designed the structure as a resting place for aliens traveling through space. This interpretation made the project a singular creation rooted in alternative thinking and popular imagination.
