Indian Fields Methodist Campground, Methodist camp meeting site in Saint George, United States.
Indian Fields Methodist Campground is a Methodist camp meeting site in Saint George with a central wooden tabernacle that seats around 1,000 people. Ninety-nine rustic wooden cabins surround the tabernacle and are arranged in an octagonal pattern.
The campground moved to its present location in 1838, and the existing structures were built in 1848. It became a major gathering place for Methodist revivals across South Carolina during that era.
The annual fall revival meetings draw families who stay in simple cabins, share meals together, and participate in communal worship services that have remained largely unchanged over generations.
The wooden cabins offer basic amenities across two floors with sleeping areas upstairs and cooking spaces below. Visitors should prepare for rustic conditions and bring appropriate clothing for changing weather throughout the year.
Each wooden cabin is traditionally called a tent and is occupied by the same families year after year, with generations returning to their specific cabin at the same location. This practice creates a deeply rooted connection between families and their particular spots on the grounds.
