Myrtle Beach

Myrtle Beach is a coastal city in South Carolina, extending along several miles of sandy Atlantic shoreline. The city contains boardwalks, numerous hotels, and shopping centers that spread across the area and blend into neighboring communities.

The area developed from a small settlement in the early 20th century into a city as a railroad connection made access easier. The community officially received city status in 1936 and grew steadily afterward as a destination.

Local bands play frequently in restaurants and bars along the boardwalk, creating a relaxed and accessible scene that draws both residents and travelers. Families gather at the beach in late afternoon or early evening when the sun sits lower and the heat eases, using the public areas for picnics and games.

The city has its own airport with direct connections and offers numerous restaurants and golf courses spread throughout the area. Visitors can walk along the beach or drive to reach different sections and neighboring towns, as distances can be considerable.

The Intracoastal Waterway completely separates the city from the mainland, creating a geographic situation that is otherwise rare. This waterway runs parallel to the coast and influences daily life, as all connections must cross bridges.
