Myrtle Beach

The area developed from a small settlement in the early 20th century into a city as a railroad connection made access easier. The community officially received city status in 1936 and grew steadily afterward as a destination.

Families gather at the beach in late afternoon or early evening when the sun sits lower and the heat eases, using the public areas for picnics and games.

The city has its own airport with direct connections and offers numerous restaurants and golf courses spread throughout the area. Visitors can walk along the beach or drive to reach different sections and neighboring towns, as distances can be considerable.

The Intracoastal Waterway completely separates the city from the mainland, creating a geographic situation that is otherwise rare. This waterway runs parallel to the coast and influences daily life, as all connections must cross bridges.
