Simi Winery, Wine estate in Healdsburg, United States
Simi Winery is a winery in Healdsburg, in Sonoma County, northern California, producing wines from grapes grown in Alexander Valley and Russian River Valley. The property features stone cellars built in the 19th century that are still used for wine storage today.
The winery was founded in 1876 by two Italian brothers, Giuseppe and Pietro Simi, who moved it from San Francisco to Healdsburg in 1881. When Prohibition began in 1920, the underground stone cellars allowed the property to store wine and survive the period that forced many others to close.
The name Simi comes directly from the brothers who founded the winery, and it still appears on every bottle produced here. During tastings, guides often share stories about the valley's early winemaking community and how this place fit into it.
The winery is open daily and offers tastings that can be paired with food, along with outdoor areas where visitors can sit and enjoy the setting. Booking ahead is a good idea, especially on weekends or during the harvest season in fall.
In 1973, Zelma Long joined as winemaker and was the first woman to hold a winemaking degree from an American university. Her arrival brought laboratory methods and rigorous analysis to the production process, shaping the style of wines made here for decades.
