Beringer Vineyards

Beringer Vineyards is a winery in St. Helena, California, spanning approximately 160 acres with plantings of Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Merlot, and other grape varieties. The estate combines historic structures with production facilities for wine making on the grounds.

German immigrants Jacob and Frederick Beringer founded the winery in 1876, establishing it as the oldest continuously operating wine producer in Napa Valley. Following the repeal of Prohibition in 1933, it became the first California winery to open its doors to the public for tours and tastings.

The Rhine House displays Victorian architecture with German design elements through its detailed woodwork and ornate glass windows. Visitors can observe these European influences while walking through the main residence and appreciating the crafted interior details.

Visitors can participate in daily tastings and take guided tours through production areas to learn about winemaking. It helps to check ahead about available experiences, as offerings vary by season and may require reservations.

In the 1950s, the company carved out an underground tunnel system into the hillside to create natural conditions for wine storage. These Old Tunnels remain one of the most interesting features of the site and reveal early winemaking techniques.
