Mount Hood, Active stratovolcano in Cascade Range, Oregon, United States.

Mount Hood is an active stratovolcano in Oregon's Cascade Range that rises to approximately 11,249 feet. Twelve named glaciers and extensive snow fields cover the upper portions, creating a distinctive white-capped profile visible from great distances.

Lieutenant William Broughton identified and named the mountain in 1792 during Captain George Vancouver's exploration of the Pacific Northwest coast. This encounter marked the beginning of European interest in the region.

The mountain held deep significance for indigenous peoples of the region, who knew it by names such as Wyeast before European contact changed the landscape forever.

The mountain is accessible year-round, though conditions change dramatically with elevation and season. Visitors should prepare for variable weather and bring appropriate gear regardless of the time of year.

Each year roughly 10,000 climbers attempt to summit the mountain, making it the second most visited mountaineering destination globally after Mount Fuji. This steady stream of climbers has shaped the mountain into a training ground for aspiring mountaineers worldwide.
