Circle Star Theater, Circular theater in San Carlos, US.
Circle Star Theater was a venue with 3,743 seats arranged in a circular formation, where no seat sat more than 50 feet (15 m) from the central stage. This close proximity to the stage offered an intimate viewing experience for all attendees.
The theater opened in October 1964 with My Fair Lady, backed by investments from entertainment figures including Debbie Reynolds and Sammy Davis Jr. The building was demolished in 1997, ending an era of live entertainment in the Bay Area.
Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, and Richard Pryor performed here, making this Bay Area venue a destination for jazz, pop, and early rap audiences. The theater drew music lovers from across the region seeking live entertainment.
The venue was easily accessible from Highway 101, connecting travelers between San Francisco and San Jose. Visitors could conveniently reach it by car for performances and events.
The circular stage featured an innovative slip ring system that allowed unlimited rotation in both directions while maintaining electrical and audio connections. This technical solution was ahead of its time for stage engineering.
