Port of Redwood City, Commercial port in Redwood City, United States
The Port of Redwood City is a cargo terminal on the western side of San Francisco Bay that handles bulk goods and specialized shipments. The facility spans 120 acres with five wharfs and 190 berths designed to receive commercial vessels.
The port was established in 1850 near Redwood Creek as a station for floating logs downriver. It later became the first shipbuilding location on North America's west coast.
The waterfront paths along Redwood Creek give visitors a place to watch ships and see how the port connects the city to the bay. Walking here shows how maritime work remains part of everyday life.
Visit during weekdays to see the most port activity and watch vessels at work. The public walkways are accessible on foot but offer limited shade, so plan accordingly for longer stays.
The port houses environmental monitoring stations that record weather patterns distinct from other Bay Area locations. These particular conditions shape shipping operations and make the site noteworthy for sailors and maritime professionals.
