The Googleplex is the headquarters of Google in Mountain View, California, composed of several interconnected office buildings spread along Amphitheatre Parkway. The complex stretches across landscaped grounds, gardens, and courtyards linked by glass walkways between structures.
Google moved into the site in 2003 after Silicon Graphics, which originally built the campus, collapsed financially. Three years later the company purchased the property outright and began expanding and reshaping the buildings.
Employees move between buildings with their laptops, stop at outdoor seating areas, or gather in courtyards for informal meetings and breaks. The campus life blurs the line between workspace and daily routine, encouraging spontaneous exchanges and a relaxed approach to office culture.
Much of the campus is closed to visitors, but you can walk or cycle along the public roads and sidewalks that pass through the grounds. Some outdoor sculptures and installations are visible from these paths without entering restricted areas.
The name blends Google and complex while nodding to googolplex, a mathematical term for an enormous number. Life-size replicas of Android mascots made from candy and dessert themes dot the campus as outdoor displays.
