Android sculptures, Group of sculptures at Googleplex, Mountain View, US
Android Sculptures is a collection of oversized plastic figures displayed on the Googleplex campus in Mountain View, California. Each figure represents a version of the mobile operating system and stands together with others on the lawn near the visitor center.
The first figures appeared in 2008 when Google began celebrating each new Android release with a physical sculpture on its campus. The tradition ended in 2019 after the company changed its naming strategy for the software.
The sculptures stand as physical representations of Android software evolution, marking significant developments in mobile technology through three-dimensional artworks.
The campus area is accessible during daytime hours and the figures stand outdoors, allowing photography in all weather conditions. The easiest access is through the visitor center area, where you can also see other parts of the grounds.
Early models carry names like Cupcake, Donut, and Éclair, all following a dessert theme. Some visitors try to photograph every figure in sequence to trace the timeline of the system's development.
