University of California Botanical Garden

The 34-acre garden contains more than 13,000 plant species arranged in geographical sections, including Mediterranean, Asian, and Australian collections.

The University of California established this garden in 1890, with Professor E.L. Greene collecting Pacific Coast plants for research and preservation.

The garden functions as an educational center where students and researchers study plant species while maintaining extensive documentation of botanical specimens.

Located at 200 Centennial Drive, the garden welcomes visitors from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with advance reservations required for non-members.

The collection houses numerous endangered species and maintains specialized environments including a redwood grove, desert house, and tropical greenhouse.
