The Alameda Museum opened in 1951 in the basement of the Carnegie Library. In 1971 it moved to Alameda High School, paying $150 a month toward utilities, so the Alameda Historical Society library could gain space. It lost its lease in 1981 and relocated to its current site on Alameda Avenue. The county government now funds it.
