The Masonic Temple was built in 1891 and displays Victorian Eclectic architecture with brick piers, a south tower, and carved doors at its stone entrance. The building currently functions as an active Masonic Lodge with two distinct lodge rooms serving different ceremonial purposes.
The Temple was founded in 1891 and has housed the Oak Grove Lodge 215, which played a role in establishing Alameda's first school and the First Methodist Episcopal Church during the late 1800s. The building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places for its historical significance.
The main lodge room features a rotating wheel of stained glass emblems that allows the space to shift between different ceremonial configurations based on what is being held.
The Temple is located in downtown Alameda and functions as an active Masonic Lodge with regular member gatherings. Visitors should contact the Lodge in advance to arrange a tour, as the building may have restricted access times or specific days available for guided visits.
Two original stained glass windows from the Park Street side of the building have been relocated inside and now decorate the smaller lodge room of the active Masonic organization.
