Crown Memorial State Beach

Crown Memorial State Beach is a sandy shoreline in Alameda stretching along San Francisco Bay, with coastal dunes and a water-level bicycle path. This route connects different sections of the coast and provides views across the bay throughout.

This location was home to Neptune Beach amusement park from the 1880s until 1941, when it shifted to serve as a training facility for maritime officers. The change reflected new purposes for the waterfront during that period.

The Crab Cove Visitor Center displays exhibits about San Francisco Bay marine life and Alameda's past. Visitors can learn how people have worked alongside the water and what lives in these coastal areas.

Swimming is allowed year-round without lifeguard presence, so plan accordingly for your visit. Windsurfing, kayaking, and kiteboarding have designated zones clearly marked along the shoreline.

The Elsie Roemer Bird Sanctuary at the eastern end protects waterbirds and salt marsh species in their natural habitat. This section demonstrates how wildlife and recreation share the same space.
