Sun Yat-sen, Steel and granite sculpture in St. Mary's Square, San Francisco, United States.
The stainless steel and granite sculpture stands 14 feet tall at the intersection of California and Kearny Streets in St. Mary's Square.
The Federal Arts Project funded artist Beniamino Bufano to create this monument in 1937 during the Works Progress Administration era.
The sculpture represents Dr. Sun Yat-sen, founder of the Chinese Republic, and strengthens the connection between San Francisco and Chinese communities.
Visitors can find this public art piece on the west side of St. Mary's Square, where Sun Yat-sen spent time during his visits.
The merchants of Chinatown commissioned this sculpture to honor the leader who established modern China after the fall of the Qing Dynasty.
