California Theatre, 19th century theatre at Bush Street, San Francisco, US.
The California Theatre featured a grand structure with a 165-foot facade, 117-foot depth, and foundation walls measuring 4.5 feet thick.
William Ralston established the California Theatre in 1869, investing 250,000 dollars in its construction before its opening on January 18 of that year.
The theatre presented works by Shakespeare and numerous melodramas, attracting performers such as Edwin Adams, Lawrence Barrett, and Charlotte Thompson.
Located at 414 Bush Street between Kearny and Grant, the theatre maintained multiple exits and became the first West Coast venue with electric lighting.
The interior displayed murals by G.J. Denny, including a panoramic scene titled 'Entrance to the Golden Gate' depicting San Francisco Bay.
