McKesson Plaza

McKesson Plaza is a 38-story office building in downtown San Francisco featuring a distinctive octagonal entrance design that defines its appearance. The structure connects to Montgomery Street's transit station and houses extensive commercial office space throughout its height.

Built in 1969 and designed by architect Welton Becket, the tower initially served as headquarters for McKesson Corporation until the company relocated in 2019. This departure represented a shift in the building's role within the downtown office market.

The granite steps and surrounding trees create a public gathering space where office workers and visitors naturally converge throughout the day.

The building sits at the corner of Post Street and Market Street with direct access to the Montgomery Street BART station below. Its large public plaza provides space to rest and observe downtown activity while remaining easily accessible from nearby cable car and bus lines.

The plaza gained television presence when it appeared as a fictional residential tower in episodes of a long-running soap opera. This unexpected role in entertainment has given it a second identity beyond its office building function.
