The structure was designed and completed in 1979 by the prominent architecture firm Skidmore, Owings & Merrill. It originally served as the global headquarters for Visa Inc. before the company relocated southward to another location.

The tower reflects how major financial and lending companies chose to center their operations in downtown San Francisco during the late 1900s. Its distinctive hexagonal shape makes it recognizable among the surrounding buildings in the Financial District.
