225 Bush Street, Art Deco skyscraper in Financial District, San Francisco, United States.
225 Bush Street is a 22-story office tower in the Art Deco style with ornamental stone details and geometric patterns across its exterior. The building includes two basement levels with parking and houses various businesses in its commercial space.
The building was completed in 1922 by architect George W. Kelham and commissioned by John D. Rockefeller, becoming the city's tallest structure at that time. By 1925, the Pacific Telephone Building surpassed it in height, ending its brief reign as San Francisco's dominant landmark.
The building showcases Art Deco design through its ornamental stonework and geometric details, reflecting how San Francisco's business community expressed corporate power through architecture. Its appearance helped define the visual character of the Financial District during the early 20th century.
The building is easily accessible on foot or by vehicle, with parking available in its basement levels for drivers. Its central location in the Financial District makes it convenient to reach via public transportation or walking from nearby transit stops.
The building was originally called the Standard Oil Building and housed the headquarters of Standard Oil of California, now known as Chevron, for more than 50 years. This long association with the oil company established its prominence as a major corporate center.
