JPMorgan Chase Building, Office skyscraper in Financial District, San Francisco, United States.
The JPMorgan Chase Building is a modern office tower with 31 floors wrapped in a dark steel exterior, reaching 130 meters in height. It features commercial space above and a public plaza at ground level designed with art installations and landscaping.
Construction began in 2000 and the tower was completed in 2002 under the design of architect César Pelli. The project emerged during a period of renewal and development within San Francisco's financial core.
The public plaza in front welcomes visitors to walk through and experience moving sculptures alongside water features and bamboo plantings. It serves as a gathering space in the heart of the financial district where people pause to observe the kinetic art installation.
The building has two underground parking levels and maintains security screening at the main entrance where visitors must check in. Access to interior spaces is restricted, but the ground-level plaza is open to the public during business hours.
The tower earned LEED Platinum certification in 2010 for its environmentally conscious design and building operations. The kinetic sculpture by George Rickey positioned in the plaza is one of the few large-scale moving artworks accessible to the public in downtown San Francisco.
