New Bullards Bar Dam, Concrete arch dam in Yuba County, California, United States
New Bullards Bar Dam is a concrete arch dam that stands 635 feet (193 meters) tall in northeastern Yuba County. The structure holds back a large body of water that fills the surrounding landscape.
The current dam was completed in 1969 and represents the fourth structure built at this location. Earlier versions had operated since 1899 before being replaced.
The reservoir attracts people who come to boat, fish, and hike along its shores throughout the year. Visitors spend time exploring the water and surrounding trails as part of their outdoor routines.
The reservoir can be accessed at two main boat launch points: Cottage Creek and Dark Day. Marina services are available for fuel and equipment rental if needed.
The connected New Colgate Powerhouse runs on Pelton wheels that are among the largest ever made. These specially designed machines generate 340 megawatts of electricity from the falling water.
