The courthouse combines stainless steel exterior surfaces with glass elements across six stories, containing specialized courtrooms arranged in three pavilions with teardrop shapes.
In 1999, the General Services Administration held a design competition to replace the old Eugene Federal Building, leading to construction completion in 2006.
The building features artistic installations including metal sculptures representing the Willamette River watershed and lightbox displays illustrating legal history.
The facility contains six courtrooms ranging from 1,800 to 3,000 square feet, with administrative offices on lower levels and judges' chambers on upper floors.
The building achieved LEED Gold certification through features like natural lighting, efficient air distribution systems, and water conservation measures reducing usage by 40 percent.
