Valley of the Giants, Forest preserve in Oregon Coast Range, United States.
Valley of the Giants is a forest preserve in the Oregon Coast Range spanning over 1,600 acres of old-growth woodland. Towering Douglas firs and Western Hemlocks reach heights around 200 feet and form a layered forest with abundant mosses and understory vegetation.
The Bureau of Land Management designated this forest as an Outstanding Natural Area in 1976 and expanded it to its current size in 2016. This protection preserves one of the few remaining old-growth forests in the region.
The forest is recognized by the Oregon Heritage Tree Program as a Heritage Tree Grove, reflecting the importance of these ancient trees to the region.
The site sits west of Falls City and access is via forest roads that vary with the season and weather conditions. Check current conditions with the Bureau of Land Management before visiting, as heavy rain can make roads impassable.
The area receives over 180 inches of rain yearly, supporting thick moss coverage and remarkable plant diversity. This extreme rainfall creates the dense forest conditions typical of the Pacific coast region.
