Cascade Head

The coastal headland rises above the Pacific Ocean, featuring meadows, forests, and cliffs that form a natural barrier along the shoreline.

The Nature Conservancy acquired the land in 1966 through community fundraising efforts to prevent commercial development of the coastal grasslands.

Native American tribes maintained the grasslands through controlled burning practices, which researchers now replicate to preserve native plant species.

The lower Nature Conservancy Trail extends 4.2 miles with a 1,200-foot elevation gain, while upper trails remain closed from January to July.

The area serves as the primary habitat for Oregon silverspot butterflies, which depend exclusively on early blue violets within these coastal meadows.
