The last Blockbuster, Video rental store in Bend, Oregon, United States.
The last Blockbuster is a video rental shop in the Revere neighborhood in central Bend, Oregon, where the only remaining active store of this once global chain operates. The single-story building with large street-facing windows holds over 21,000 films on DVD and VHS, organized by genres such as action, comedy, drama and children's movies, spread across multiple aisles with blue and yellow shelving.
After Blockbuster declared bankruptcy in 2010 and thousands of stores worldwide closed, this location in Bend remained open. In March 2019, it became the last active store of the entire chain after the two remaining shops in Alaska shut down.
The shop preserves the atmosphere of video stores from past decades, when families and friends browsed the aisles together to pick their weekend films. Today, people from different countries come here to experience this now vanished way of renting movies and take photos in front of the blue and yellow shelves.
Visitors can sign up for membership with a credit card and identification to rent films for a few days or a week, depending on whether they are new releases or older titles. Many also come just to walk through the aisles, take photos for memory and pick up small souvenirs from the merchandise area near the entrance.
The shop still uses the same computer system from the 2000s to manage rentals, including original membership cards with barcode. Besides selling films and souvenirs, the location also offers an Airbnb stay where guests can spend a night among the shelves.
