Portland Japanese Garden, Japanese garden in Washington Park, Portland, United States.
The Portland Japanese Garden spans 12 acres of land featuring five traditional garden styles, including stroll, tea, natural, sand, and flat gardens.
Landscape architect Takuma Tono designed the garden in 1963, and it opened to the public in 1967 as a symbol of post-World War II reconciliation.
The garden incorporates essential elements of Japanese gardening principles with stone arrangements, water features, and carefully pruned plants representing nature in miniature form.
Visitors can access the garden through Washington Park, with guided tours available daily and a Cultural Village offering educational programs about Japanese traditions.
The 2017 expansion includes buildings designed by Kengo Kuma, featuring a complex of structures made with aluminum, glass, and wood in traditional Japanese architectural style.
