Pacific Building, National Register historic office building in Portland, United States
The Pacific Building is an office structure in Renaissance Revival style featuring red tile roofing, dormers, and geometric windows in downtown Portland. The facade blends Chicago School design with Italian Renaissance elements into a unified composition.
The structure was built in 1926 on the site of the former Henry Corbett estate, which locals called the Million Dollar Cowpasture. This development reflected the transformation of central Portland into a modern commercial district.
The building marks the beginning of architect Pietro Belluschi's career, and it later served as the headquarters for A.E. Doyle's architectural practice. Both figures shaped how Portland developed its downtown skyline and professional identity.
The building sits at 520 SW Yamhill Street across from Pioneer Courthouse in the heart of downtown Portland's business district. Its central location makes it accessible during a walking tour of the city center.
The structure originally contained Portland's first underground parking garage, a feature that operated until 2000. This hidden element shows how early the site adapted to modern urban traffic challenges.
