Kimpton Hotel Vintage Portland, hotel in Portland, Oregon
The Kimpton Hotel Vintage Portland is a historic building in downtown Portland situated on SW Broadway, designed in the Richardsonian Romanesque architectural style. Its facade features substantial stone construction with rounded arches, thick walls, and decorative terra cotta detailing that create a solid, imposing presence.
Construction began in 1892 and the building opened in March 1894, designed by architect Frederick Manson White. An adjacent building called the New Imperial Hotel was added in 1909, and the two structures were later separated as individual properties in 1949.
The building played a notable role in Portland's early social life, particularly through its bathhouse facilities which served as gathering spaces for the community. Its presence in downtown reflected and supported the city's emerging social dynamics during the early 1900s.
The hotel sits centrally in Portland's downtown area with easy access to shops, restaurants, and cultural venues nearby. Its SW Broadway location puts you within walking distance of most of the city's main attractions and neighborhoods.
The building was designated a Portland landmark in 1985 and added to the National Register of Historic Places that same year. A major 2015 renovation costing approximately 16 million dollars restored its original rough stone walls while installing contemporary amenities throughout.
