Tilikum Crossing, Bridge of the People
Tilikum Crossing, Bridge of the People, Transit bridge in Portland, United States
The 520-meter cable-stayed bridge spans across the Willamette River with two towers supporting a network of illuminated cables connecting the South Waterfront to Central Eastside.
The 2015 bridge marks the first crossing constructed over the Willamette River in Portland since the Fremont Bridge completion in 1973.
The name Tilikum originates from Chinook Wawa language, used by early Oregonians and settlers, representing the concepts of people, tribe, and relatives.
The bridge exclusively serves public transit, including MAX trains, Portland Streetcar, buses, pedestrians, and cyclists, connecting major destinations like PSU and OHSU.
LED lights on the bridge structure change colors based on the Willamette River's speed, height, and temperature measurements.
