Alfred Webb Investment Properties
Alfred Webb Investment Properties, Architectural ensemble in Buckman, United States.
Alfred Webb Investment Properties consists of four Queen Anne cottages with brick foundations, multiple gables, and decorative shingles along Belmont Street in Portland. The buildings form a residential group from the late 1800s with shared spaces behind them.
These four rental cottages were built in 1891 by the owner of Alfred Webb Safe and Lock Company as housing investments. They stayed under the same family's ownership until 1928, after which they changed hands.
Inside, you find features typical of the late 1800s: sliding doors, entry halls, and room layouts that shaped how people lived back then. These details show a different way of organizing daily life at home.
The cottages sit along Belmont Street in a residential neighborhood and are easy to reach on foot from the surrounding area. You can view the exteriors and shared backyard space from the street without needing special arrangements.
The National Register of Historic Places recognized this group in 1989 as an important example of Queen Anne style used for working-class housing. This honor shows how ordinary residential buildings became valuable records of architectural history and daily life.
