Revolution Hall, Music venue in Buckman neighborhood, Portland, US
Revolution Hall is a performance venue inside the former Washington High School building in southeast Portland, Oregon. It has a main auditorium with original wooden seating and several smaller rooms that host different types of events throughout the building.
The building opened in 1924 as the auditorium of Washington High School and served the school until it closed in 1981. After sitting empty for decades, it was renovated and reopened as a performance venue in 2015.
The old school hallways and wooden seats give the venue a feeling that is hard to find in a purpose-built concert hall. Visitors often notice the chalkboards and other school details still visible in parts of the building.
The venue sits in southeast Portland and is easy to reach by public transit. It has two bars and a rooftop deck that may be open outside of main events, but opening hours depend on what is scheduled, so checking ahead is always a good idea.
The rooftop deck was added during the 2015 renovation and was not part of the original school, offering a view over southeast Portland that the building never had before. The original auditorium was not designed for live music, so the renovation required significant work on acoustics to make it work for concerts.
