Weatherly Building, Beaux-Arts office building in Portland, Oregon
The Weatherly Building is a twelve-story office structure with a weathered brick and terra cotta facade characteristic of the Beaux-Arts style. The exterior features Romanesque arches near the roofline and decorative embellishments that emphasize the building's vertical proportion and architectural detailing.
Constructed in 1928 by ice cream entrepreneur George Warren Weatherly, the building was part of an ambitious development in the area. The complex included an adjacent Oriental Theatre, creating a combined commercial and cultural landmark for the district.
This structure helped shape Portland's uptown district into an established business hub and remains a recognized landmark in the neighborhood. Its presence contributed to the area becoming a destination for both commerce and architectural appreciation.
Three elevators serve the building's different levels, making it easy to access the various office spaces housed within. Visitors can explore the exterior and ground floor areas where different businesses operate today.
The ground floor originally housed an ice cream shop run by Weatherly himself, reflecting his significant market presence in Oregon. This direct link between the owner's business interests and the building's commercial use is now mostly invisible to visitors.
