Oregon business pioneer Simeon Gannett Reed commissioned the construction of this stable and carriage facility in 1887, designed by architect Warren Heywood Williams.
The building represents the transportation infrastructure of 19th century Portland, when horses and carriages were essential for urban mobility.
The structure occupies less than one acre of land and includes an adjacent commercial building from 1894 that forms part of the historical complex.
The National Register of Historic Places listed this building on October 7, 1982, with reference number 82001512, recognizing its architectural significance.
