The Wreckage, Rustic log house in Ocean Park, United States
The Wreckage is a wooden house built from unhewn logs with extended roof overhangs and fishing net floats decorating windows and doors. The building contains two brick chimneys and multiple dormers that give it a distinctive rustic form.
Guy S. Allison built the house in 1912 using materials from ships that wrecked near the Columbia River around 1911. Cement from the French ship Alice and timber from the steamer Washington were incorporated into the structure.
The name reflects the salvaged shipwreck materials that define the building's character and story. Visitors can see how driftwood and found objects decorate the structure and grounds.
The house is located in a residential area in Ocean Park and can be viewed from the street. Visitors should remember this is a private residence and explore the surrounding area respectfully.
After construction, the owner collected driftwood and shaped it into animal sculptures known as Wreckage Park Zoo, which appeared on maps. This collection received national attention through publications and turned the property into a distinctive folk art project.
