Mount Hood, Stratovolcano in Cascade Range, Oregon
Mount Hood rises to 3,425 meters with eleven active glaciers covering its summit and gray volcanic deposits along its rivers.
Lieutenant William Broughton named the mountain after British Admiral Samuel Hood during his Columbia River expedition in October 1792.
Native Chinookan and Molala tribes established trails throughout the mountain slopes and regarded this location as a spiritual center.
The mountain contains five winter sports destinations including Timberline Lodge, which provides skiing activities throughout the entire year.
The volcanic structure contains twelve mapped glaciers that have decreased by 61 percent in volume during the last hundred years.
