Pacific Lutheran University is a private institution spread across 156 acres south of Tacoma, featuring academic buildings, dormitories, and the Anderson University Center for student activities. Norwegian Lutheran immigrants founded the institution in 1890 as Pacific Lutheran Academy with just 30 students and tuition of one dollar per week. The school gradually expanded and eventually became the modern university it is today.
