Schoen Lake Provincial Park, Provincial park in Regional District of Mount Waddington, Canada.
Schoen Lake Provincial Park is a forest-covered area of about 8,775 hectares in the Insular Mountains on northern Vancouver Island, featuring mountain ranges, lakes, and streams. The park contains a mix of natural features including multiple waterways and varied terrain spread across the region.
The area received official protection in 1977 when it was designated as a Class A park to safeguard the natural features of the Insular Mountains region. This designation marked an important moment in preserving the landscape from further development.
The area held deep importance for the Nootka First Nations as a source of food and survival through hunting and fishing. This connection remains part of the region's identity and how local communities view the landscape.
The park is accessible by gravel road, with nine camping sites located at the western end of the lake and equipped with tables, toilets, and fire pits. Most visitors can comfortably reach these facilities and use them as a base for exploring the area.
Kiwi Falls reaches about 475 meters in height, making it the eighth tallest confirmed waterfall in British Columbia and the highest on Vancouver Island. Few visitors realize this hidden feature exists within the park boundaries.
