Bainbridge Island is an island in Puget Sound west of Seattle in Kitsap County. Forested hills alternate with small coves, while the main road winds through several quiet town centers.
The Suquamish lived here in several settlements before European explorers and later loggers arrived. Shipbuilding shaped the island during the 20th century when shipyards built hundreds of vessels.
The island maintains numerous art galleries, studios, and exhibition spaces, with the Bainbridge Arts & Crafts organization supporting local artists through regular programs.
The ferry from Seattle docks at Winslow harbor, where shops and cafes are located. Some parts of the island are hilly and require a car or bicycle to reach more distant areas.
