Agate Pass Bridge, Road bridge in Kitsap County, US
The Agate Pass Bridge is a steel cantilever bridge in Washington state that connects Bainbridge Island to the Kitsap Peninsula. It crosses the strait with one main section and is the main road link between these two areas.
The bridge opened in 1950 and replaced a ferry system that had carried passengers and vehicles between the two shores since the 1920s.
The National Register of Historic Places recognized the importance of this steel bridge in May 1995.
The bridge remains open for regular traffic throughout most of the year, though it may close periodically for maintenance work on its structure. Drivers should check for any temporary restrictions before planning trips that depend on crossing here.
The maintenance schedule considers the peregrine falcons that nest under the structure and plans work around their breeding season.
