Carkeek Park, Urban park in north Seattle, United States
Carkeek Park is a 216-acre park in north Seattle containing forests, meadows, wetlands, and creek systems that flow down to the Puget Sound shoreline. A network of trails threads through the landscape.
The park preserves Piper's Orchard on the eastern slope, where heritage fruit trees date back to early settlers in the area. This location shows how the land was used before becoming a park.
From October to December, visitors gather at the creek to watch chum salmon return to one of Seattle's few salmon-bearing streams. The presence of these fish connects people to the natural rhythm of the local waterways.
To reach the beach, you need to cross a pedestrian bridge over active railroad tracks. Restroom facilities are located near the Metro Pump Station.
At low tide, the beach reveals an exposed intertidal zone where natural pools form and marine creatures gather. These shallow pools offer a close look at starfish, sea anemones, and other coastal life.
