Bellingham Railway Museum, Railway museum in downtown Bellingham, United States
The Bellingham Railway Museum was a railway museum located in downtown Bellingham that displayed model train layouts, historical train equipment, and a large collection of railway lanterns spanning different decades. These objects illustrated the technical development of railroads across time.
The museum was founded in 2003 with a focus on documenting railroad development across Whatcom and Skagit Counties in the region. It closed in 2020, ending its role in presenting this regional transportation story to the public.
The museum told the story of how railways shaped the communities of Washington state and brought people and goods through the region. Visitors could see documents and photographs that showed this connection to local life.
The museum was normally open Tuesday through Saturday from noon to five o'clock in the afternoon. Families could purchase tickets that covered admission for up to four visitors at a discounted rate.
The museum featured an interactive train operating simulator powered by Microsoft Train Simulator software, which let visitors practice controlling locomotives on screen. This blended classic railroad artifacts with modern computer technology in a way visitors did not expect.
