Posey Island State Park, Marine state park in San Juan County, United States
Posey Island is a small state park in the San Juan Islands with about one acre of land and saltwater shoreline on all sides. The isle lies north of Pearl Island near Roche Harbor and provides two basic camping areas and one composting toilet facility.
The site was leased from the federal Bureau of Land Management to Washington State in 1960 when it became a marine park. This arrangement allowed the State Parks and Recreation Commission to protect the fragile island ecosystem while opening it to public use.
The island serves as a waypoint for kayakers traveling through the San Juan Islands, connecting paddlers with the region's marine environment. Visitors can see how the place blends water-based traditions with conservation efforts.
Visitors can only reach the island by paddling or sailing non-motorized watercraft, as motorboats are not permitted. Plan the visit for calm weather since the site is small and exposed to open water conditions.
Harbor porpoises and seabirds that live in the San Juan Islands waters can be spotted from this tiny isle. The island sits only slightly above sea level, which makes wildlife viewing possible from close range.
