UBC Farm, Teaching farm at University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada.
UBC Farm is a teaching facility at the University of British Columbia spanning about 24 hectares of growing land and forested areas. The site includes two glass greenhouses, three polytunnels, storage buildings, classrooms, offices, and a composting system for processing agricultural waste.
The farm began operations in 1915 near the Nitobe Memorial Garden before moving to its current location at Wesbrook Place in 1970. This relocation allowed the operation to expand into the larger teaching and research project it is today.
The site serves as a teaching hub where students and visitors work together on sustainable farming projects through hands-on workshops and guided tours. People from the neighbourhood and beyond gather here to learn about growing food and caring for land.
The site sits at the southern end of the university campus and is easily accessible by foot or bike along campus pathways. Wear appropriate clothing for outdoor work, as most activities and tours take place in the open air and vary with the season.
The heritage orchard contains more than 70 apple varieties that show what diverse harvests are possible in this Pacific Northwest region. Alongside apples, the grounds also grow grapes, berry bushes, and hops that reflect the full range of what local farmers can cultivate.
