Luna Park, Amusement park at Duwamish Head in Seattle, United States.
Luna Park was an amusement park at Duwamish Head in Seattle featuring wooden boardwalks that extended over Elliott Bay. It offered mechanical rides, a carousel, a roller coaster called the Figure Eight, and both saltwater and freshwater swimming pools housed in its Natatorium building.
Charles I. D. Looff designed and oversaw the construction of the park in 1906, envisioning it as a recreation destination. It opened in 1907 and closed in 1913.
The park's illuminated buildings and attractions created a luminous display across Elliott Bay, drawing families for evening entertainment.
The park was located at a waterfront site that made it easily accessible by boat across the bay for visitors seeking water and land-based entertainment. Guests could move between different rides and pools to enjoy a full day of activities.
In 1908, a pilot named L. Guy Mecklem launched Seattle's first manned flight from this location, racing against two automobiles in a ten-mile competition. This early flight attempt marked a rare moment when aviation and land transport were directly compared.
