Chihuly Garden and Glass, Glass art exhibition at Seattle Center, United States.
Chihuly Garden and Glass is an exhibition complex in Seattle Center featuring indoor galleries, a glass house structure, and outdoor gardens. Hundreds of hand-crafted glass sculptures in different colors fill the space, representing four decades of artistic work.
The complex opened in 2012 next to the Space Needle and turned a section of Seattle Center into a permanent gallery for glass art. The project grew from a long relationship between the artist and the city to make his work accessible to the public.
The rooms show how glassblowers use different shaping and heating methods to create works in all kinds of colors. You can walk through and see how each space focuses on a particular technique or artistic direction.
The venue is open year-round and requires no special preparation for outdoor areas. The indoor galleries are climate-controlled and comfortable, while outdoor sections change with the seasons.
The centerpiece is a walkable glass house with a 100-foot suspended sculpture made from over 1,000 individual glass pieces in red, orange, and yellow tones. The piece shifts its appearance throughout the day as light moves through the glass walls.
